A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
