Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51M watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
