Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
