Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only half a year following starting disrespectful taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds concluded amicably this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs about Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Currently, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull his beloved club out of the bottom places.
Previous History Between the Striker & the Manager
The pair had history before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All appears to have been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 games for Leeds last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
