The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
